Know Some Skin-Healthy Foods

Do you know that some food can help improve your skin conditions? Certain nutrients in food can actually promote healthy skin, such as fatty acids, vitamin C, and probiotics. On the contrary, foods high in refined carbohydrates, such as bread and chips, can worsen skin conditions, including acne.

Essential fatty acids like omega-3s and omega-6s are the foundation of healthy cells. They help produce the skin's natural oil barrier, which is fundamental in keeping skin looking young and feeling hydrated. Good sources of Omega-6 fats include vegetable oils, seeds and nuts. Omega-3 is commonly contained in Oily fish, fish oil and flaxseed.

Vitamin C is a key antioxidant that reduces the appearance of aging, brightens face and keeps the skin healthy. Many fruits and vegetables are natural sources of internal Vitamin C, such as oranges, strawberries, cantaloupe, spinach, cabbage, papaya, bell peppers, green peas, broccoli, grapefruit, kiwi, tomatoes, and pineapple.

Finally, probiotics, which are found in yogurt, are a worthy addition to your skin-care routine. Probiotics are well known for their positive impact on the immune system and the gut, and they also can help with acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, and photoaging, which manifests on the skin as wrinkles, according to a June 2015 article published in the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology.
